Main objective of this German research project was to improve the phosphate efficiency in wheat. 200 old and modern winter wheat cultivars were tested for their acquisition, uptake, and use efficiencies including less readily available phosphates. The recycling phosphate tested in this project originated from a process where heavy metal contents are significantly reduced in a two-step anaerobic – aerobic thermal process. Plant availability was tested with our low-P test substrate.
